Migration | Participation | Peace

Think and Do Hub

MiPaPe stands for migration, participation and peace, because we are convinced that only together, we can move. Move towards a more inclusive, peaceful and just society. Move towards a society that is based on empathy, participation, and intercultural understanding.

We currently see a rise in violent conflicts - in Switzerland and abroad. We see how polarisation is tearing people apart from each other. And we see how racist and discriminatory structures and behaviours are poisoning peaceful ways of living together. Yet, how we choose to respond to these conflicts can lead us either towards a more polarised, or a more peaceful society.

We established the MiPaPe as a Think and Do Hub to address conflicts constructively - starting in Switzerland. What can we learn from peacebuilding and dialogue methods to reduce violence related to racism and migration? How can peacebuilding and conflict resolution be more migration-sensitive? MiPaPe does it by providing capacity building to relevant stakeholders, establishing trusted dialogue spaces, producing and sharing knowledge, and advocating for change - and bringing this all under a roof in the MiPaPe Think and Do Hub.

Our activities

To get closer to our vision, we apply a holistic approach, which is based on four complementary areas:

Capacity building

We provide capacity building programs to institutions to raise awareness about migration-related conflicts, and to provide them with the tools to behave in a more interculturally aware, anti-racist, and migration-sensitive way in their jobs. We also provide training to migration communities to offer skills & knowledge to effectively claim their rights and resolve conflicts peacefully.

Dialogue spaces

We create trusted dialogue spaces for open and inclusive discussions on migration issues, as well as peaceful resolution of conflicts related to racism, discrimination, and migration.

Research and knowledge sharing

We produce and share research and knowledge. They reflect on best practices, provide innovative approaches in addressing migration-related challenges and enable better informed decision-making processes.

Advocacy

We conduct advocacy to increase public awareness for migrants’ rights and excluding violent structures, and to influence public decision-making so that participation improves policies and legislation.

Connecting these four areas of work is a unique holistic approach to reduce migration-related violence in Switzerland: potential or actual conflicts can be identified during capacity building activities and constructively addressed in other areas of work, like the dialogue spaces. They can then inform our knowledge generation and advocacy, ensuring informed and self-reflected activities and contributing to the broader social debate. In all areas, we focus on participatory approaches, empathy and intercultural understanding.

Network and partnerships

Together, we can move further. We see our work similar to a hiking journey towards a more peaceful and just society, and we would like to undertake it jointly with you! There are so many amazing initiatives and projects supporting participation, inclusion and peacebuilding existing already.

Some of them we know, some we would like to discover. Please reach out and let’s explore how we can collaborate together.

About us

We are seven young professionals interested in migration, peacebuilding and social change topics, bringing in diverse skills and experiences from NGOs, administration, design, research, and foreign policy sectors. Some of us have their own refugee or migration history. We are connected by the conviction that constructive conflicts can be beneficial for a society to move forward: therefore, we founded MiPaPe in December 2024 in Switzerland.
